The Schengen Entry-Exit System: what you need to know
The Schengen Entry/Exit System (EES) is an information system for managing the external Schengen borders.
It will register all third-country nationals (including persons travelling with a UK passport) entering and leaving the Schengen Area - of which Switzerland is a member - and automatically calculate their duration of stay, replacing the current practice of manually stamping passports. It is expected to come into force in the second half of 2024. More information
If you are a Swiss-UK or Swiss-EU/EEA national you are advised to enter the Schengen Area with a Swiss or EU/EEA identity document (passport or ID card).
