WALK IN THE BORDERS

Swiss Club Edinburgh

INFORMATION

In September Sepp Jans invites us to a walk with 4 possibilities. An informative stroll, a leisurely walk around a Loch, or to a  strenuous hill walk in the Moorfoot Hills, finished by a visit of the freshly renovated Relief of Scotland and finally to meet up with everyone for “coffee and scones” at the Barony Hotel in Eddleston. Even if you would just like to meet at the Barony Hotel at end of the walk it would be a good reason for a day out to meet Swiss companions.

The informative stroll brings us to the Portmore Estate, north east from Eddleston, with its walled garden which we can visit (fee £6), after the visit we change the side of the valley and walk up to the Relief of Scotland beside the Barony Hotel in Eddleston. The leisurly walk brings us through the Portmore Estate up to Loch Portmore. The shore invites us for a short picnic before we move on and walk around the loch through pasture and a herd of cows back to Eddleston to join the informative walkers at the Relief and the scones.

The fit hillwalkers leave the leisurly walkers after half around the loch and ascend towards Dundreich (623m) to enjoy – weather permitting – a fantastic roundview towards the hills of the Borders and towards the Pentlands and Edinburgh before we descend again down to Eddleston to join the others.
