Pancake Day UK
Shrove Tuesday
across the land, ,

Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day held on 17 February 2026, the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

It is celebrated by eating pancakes to use up rich foods like eggs, sugar, and fat before the 40-day fasting period of Lent. The day serves as a final, indulgent celebration before the solemn Lenten season.

"Shrove" comes from the Old English word "shrive," meaning to confess sins and receive absolution, marking a time of spiritual preparation.

Ingredients for pancakes represent4 points of significance: eggs (creation), flour (staff of life), salt (wholesomeness), and milk (purity).
